IN CONVERSATION: Mike Kaufmann and Braydee Euliss on Out Into Us (Slow Down)

  • Herron Galleries 735 West New York Street Indianapolis, Indiana, 46202 United States (map)

Join us for a conversation between COMPANION gallerist Braydee Euliss and Mike Kaufmann, long-time manager for the Academy Award-nominated (Everything Everywhere All at Once) band Son Lux.

On the occasion of the Indianapolis installation of Out Into Us (Slow Down), a 17-minute video and audio experience based on the first track of Son Lux’s ninth album Out Into, Kaufmann and Euliss sit down to continue a nearly decade-long conversation about slowing down, working with institutions, and moving more comfortably through the unknown. They consider their evolving roles as artist managers and representatives in an age of clips, device dependency, and fragmented attention.

Setting is intimate with seating for 30 guests. Free with reservation.

Mike Kaufmann is founder and owner of MERU, and manages the Oscar and BAFTA-nominated band Son Lux, Lucrecia Dalt, Vines, Deru, and Holland Andrews. He also consults for Gotye and Brendan Angelides.

Mike started his career in music as A&R and label manager for Asthmatic Kitty Records. He signed and released debut albums by the Castanets, Julianna Barwick, and Helado Negro. Mike has supported many artists’ growth and development, including Sufjan Stevens, whose 2005 album Illinois earned gold status. Over his ten years with the label, he helped grow the business from a bedroom operation to an internationally known and respected record label.

In addition to his work in music, Mike consults community foundations and non-profit organizations. He was the project manager for the Central Indiana Community Foundation's Connected Community Initiative, which was awarded $25M from the Lilly Endowment Inc. and catalyzed in a transformative investment of $200M into trails.

Between 2011 and 2021, Mike worked for Health & Hospital Corporation and Eskenazi Health as vice president of civic investment, supporting equitable and accessible art and culture, design, and livability initiatives in Indianapolis. He curated and project managed the nationally recognized and award-winning $2M public art program as part of the construction of the organization's LEED-Gold certified hospital campus, helped manage the construction and designed programming of a rooftop farm on the hospital's outpatient building, and catalyzed a transition of its local food procurement from 5% to 50% purchased within the state of Indiana.

Braydee Euliss is an independent curator and gallerist based in Indianapolis, dedicated to stewarding the curiosities and connections of a new Midwestern creative class. Euliss studied art history and material culture in London and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the School of Art at Ball State University. For nearly twenty years, her curatorial and consulting work has examined the interdependence between artists and institutions across public, private, and nonprofit sectors, including public art, art fairs, special projects, and nonprofit leadership. In 2021, she founded COMPANION, a contemporary art gallery that presents solo exhibitions by Indiana artists, curates group exhibitions with regional and national artists, and encourages more intentional art patronage. Euliss is a 2026 Curatorial Research Fellow with Independent Curators International.
