Flag Lowering Ceremony
3:30 — 4:30pm

We’ll gather for a ceremonial flag-lowering of Tree Time Share (radiance) by Kim Beck. The pink flag was raised during the Opening Reception and has flown throughout the exhibition. Tree Time Share is a series of five flags created by Beck from direct rubbings of tree bark from specific species on the property. The flags live in a collection of handmade, hand-painted wooden boxes. When selected and flown, they can communicate a viewer’s shifting internal state, signaling radiance, resilience, persistence, stability, or stillness. The five boxes are accompanied by a sixth box containing excerpts from essays, poems, lyrics, etc., about trees. This sixth box is a growing archive of the ways we share time with trees. Guests are invited to contribute to the archive. The lowering of the flag will be accompanied by a composition scored by Indianapolis-based musician Stuart Hyatt.

Presented off-site in verdant gardens and intimate cottage spaces, the exhibition features sculpture, painting, ceramic, textile, video, and sound works that celebrate slow, curious relationships with the land and with each other. This third annual group exhibition for the summer solstice calls attention to acts of personal and collective reorientation and recovery, with artworks and public programs that position yearning and abstract storytelling as critical compasses for belonging.

Featured artists include Aleyah Austin, Stephanie Barlow, Kim Beck, Ellery Diaz, Meris Drew, Lalana Fedorschak, Dana Lynn Harper, Stuart Hyatt, Maura Jasper, Rebekah Nolan, Grace Seibert, Max Trumpower, and Seneca Weintraut. Contributing land-based practitioners include Kevin Allison, Danicia Monét Malone, James R. McKenna, Chris Merritt, and Shamira.
